Uproar Over Don Imus’ Remarks Draws Attention to Racial Double Standard
by Joe McCarthy
The outcry from the organized
race hustling lobby has once again hit a fever pitch over the recent jocular
remarks made by talk show host Don Imus regarding
the Rutgers women’s basketball team. Referring to the team as “nappy headed hos,”
Imus was engaging in his usual banter which has
characterized his show for thirty years - that is make fun of anybody and
everybody for the sake of entertaining his audience. It took someone like Al
Sharpton to find something dastardly in Imus’ deed (get a life, Al).
Predictably, Sharpton is demanding Imus be fired,
and is threatening to picket his employer if he isn’t; this, despite Imus’
repeated groveling apologies.
What is always interesting whenever these sorts of incidents arise is how
‘anti-racist’ spokesmen such as the Reverends Sharpton and Jackson conveniently
manage to limit their purported outrage to remarks uttered by white people. Nary
a word in protest is directed toward the sundry instances of racist remarks made
by people of color toward whites, which leads one to logically conclude that
people like Sharpton and Jackson are less interested in fighting racism as such
than they are in venting their not so latent rage toward white men. Indeed,
‘fighting racism’ has become America’s premiere racket.
When City College faculty member bell hooks remarked that she’d like to murder a
white man on board a plane, these “reverends” were conspicuously silent.
Granted, declaring a desire to engage in racist murder isn’t quite as outrageous
as calling someone a “nappy headed ho,” but gee Jesse and Al, how about at least
a press
release?
Just who is the bigot anyway?
The following is a list, by no means exhaustive, of the many instances of
non-white remarks directing undisguised hatred toward whites. In none of these
cases were said individuals forced to apologize. In none of these cases were Al
Sharpton or Jesse Jackson heard from. And unlike in Mr. Imus’ case, in none of
these cases were any of these people kidding:
“I don’t care about your idiot children.”
— Willie Brown (Mayor of San Francisco, to a White parent complaining that
affirmative action would penalize his children), quoted in The Social Contract
(Summer 1998, p. 290)
“It’s always illegitimate for white men to organize as white men.”
— William Raspberry (Black columnist), Dubiously Exclusive, (Washington Post,
Nov. 24, 1995)
“Q: What kind of world do you want to leave to your children?
A: A world in which there aren’t any white people. . . .”
— Leonard Jeffries (chairman of the African-American studies department of the
City College of New York), interviewed by T.L. Stanclu and Nisha Mohammed,
Rutherford Magazine (May 1995, p. 13)
“You guys have been practicing discrimination for years. Now it is our turn.”
— Black Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall (in a conversation with Justice
William Douglas about racial preferences), quoted by William O. Douglas, The
Court Years, 1939-1975 (New York, Random House, 1980)
Mario Obledo (former California secretary of health and welfare and co-founder
of Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund: “We’re going to take
over all the political institutions of California. California is going to be a
Hispanic state and anyone who doesn’t like it should leave. If they [Anglos]
don’t like Mexicans, they ought to go back to Europe.” [interviewed on radio
station KIEV, Los Angeles, June 17, 1998.]
Haunani-Kay Trask (Professor of Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawaii at
Manoa, and author of the following poem)
Racist White Woman
I could kick
Your face, puncture
Both eyes.
You deserve this kind
Of violence.
No more vicious
Tongues, obscene
Lies.
Just a knife
Slitting your tight
Little heart.
For all my people
Under your feet
For all those years
Lived smug and wealthy
Off our land
Parasite arrogant
A fist
In your painted
Mouth, thick
With money
And piety
[Ryan O’Donnell, “Hate America Professor,” Frontpagemag.com, June 25, 2003.]
It has long since become obvious that in modern America the organized
anti-racist lobby is little more than an anti-white shakedown front dedicated to
bullying and financially fleecing whites; the cover being the ostensibly noble
aim of combatting bigotry and prejudice. As we can see though, ‘all this is
fraud!’ The practical effect is to give anti-white bigots a free ride and to
make it to where whites, especially white men, must walk on eggshells lest their
careers be ruined. Don Imus is just the latest
victim of this blatant anti-white inquisition.
Imus has nothing to be ashamed of. He was
kidding. Those with a sense of humor can discern between what he said and the
kind of vitriol from Jeffries, Marshall, et al. It used to be that a good sense
of humor was valued in this country; but then that was before Al Sharpton came
along.
Sharpton and his fellow professional complainers need to be told where to go.
White celebrities must not continue to be at the mercy of such hucksters. It’s
worth noting that if there existed in this country a powerful white oriented
advocacy group, looking out for white interests, such as exists with every other
group ranging from the NAACP for blacks, MALDEF for Mexicans, ad nauseam., this
would not be happening. It’s also worth noting that until such a group exists
this will continue to happen with men like Don Imus
out on an island sniveling and bending over to save themselves.
